Live Love Recover

Australian girl. Currently recovering from ED. 10 months recovered. Hopeful & determined - the only way is up.

Don’t fall in love with your best friend.
You’ll end the friendship because it hurts, stupidly look back on old conversations and miss them like hell.

Let me tell you something: recovering from an eating disorder is a much bigger accomplishment than having an eating disorder.

Guys, I have another question for you

24. July 2014

Thank you for all your messages/responses to my question regarding ED education in high school.

I am appalled that this subject is still overlooked. Especially given that in Australia alone:

  • The incidence of bulimia in the Australian population is 5 in 100
  • Among 15-24 year old females, anorexia has a standardized mortality rate that is 12 times the annual mortality rate from all causes
  • The onset of anorexia usually occurs during adolescents with a median age of 17
  • At the end of 2012 it was estimated that eating disorders affected nearly 1 million Australians

I didn’t believe for 4 out of the 6 years with ED that I had an eating disorder, because I never knew that anything other than anorexia was a cause for concern. More importantly, I didn’t know where to go or what to do when I did realise I had a problem.

So another question for you guys:

What would have helped you by way of ED/mental health education?
